Board Spotlight: Keith Veselka

Keith Veselka is widely respected across Washington’s tree fruit industry as a thoughtful leader and an early advocate for using technology to strengthen on-farm decision making. As an owner at NWFM, he oversees orchard properties throughout the state on behalf of institutional investors, pension funds, and private individuals, producing apples, cherries, and pears across diverse growing regions.

His perspective has been shaped by varied experience, from managing family farm operations to serving in the U.S. Air Force, where technology and data were central to mission success. Those experiences continue to inform his outlook today. Keith views emerging tools such as AI, remote sensing, and precision agriculture as ways to enhance, not replace, hands-on farming. When used thoughtfully, they provide clearer information, strengthen judgment, and support timely decisions, all while keeping boots on the ground.
That same long-term mindset guides his service to the Washington Apple Education Foundation. A former chairman and current member of the WAEF Board of Directors, Keith was drawn to the organization through a deep belief in giving back and investing in the next generation. His earlier work with disadvantaged youth further reinforced that commitment.
Having worked closely with growers, investors, and operators across multiple regions, Keith understands both the pressures facing the industry and the importance of preparing its future leaders. His perspective helps ensure WAEF remains grounded in real-world conditions while continuing to invest wisely in students.
“When we support students early and walk alongside them through college, we’re investing in thoughtful, capable leaders for the future, no matter where their path ultimately leads,” Keith shares.
From his vantage point, WAEF plays an essential role in helping students navigate college successfully and plan for meaningful careers. By supporting them as they build skills, confidence, and direction, WAEF prepares students to contribute wherever their paths lead, often back to the communities and industries that shaped them.
What gives Keith particular confidence in WAEF today is it’s Beyond the Scholarship approach. The foundation does more than award funding. It remains engaged through mentorship, guidance, and support as students’ academic and career plans evolve. That steady focus on long-term success, rather than short-term outcomes, is what Keith believes truly sets WAEF apart.
