Year of the Apple Art Contest
Year of the Apple Art Contest 2017!
Thank you to everyone who entered this year's contest! Our top three winners have been selected and we are proud to announce them! Thank you so much to our loyal sponsor Dow AgroSciences for supporting students through this contest!
Dow AgroSciences sponsored another exciting Year of the Apple art contest this year! WAEF accepted 84 entries from high school students from ten different counties in the north central Washington area making it difficult for judges to narrow down the top three winners! Thank you to judges Kira Bennett, Geraldine Warner and Kelly Green.
Hailey Fisher of Southridge High School was this year's Year of the Apple art contest winner! Her painting titled Galacaptured the judges attention with it's accurate depiction of the named apple, colorful brilliance and artistic use of real apple slices to stamp the interesting background.
Hailey is a graduating senior, set to attend Walla Walla Community College in September to study graphic design with hopes of attending Whitman College in the future. WAEF staff and Kira Bennett of Dow AgroSciences surprised Hailey in her AP art class yesterday with a check for $1,000 which she will be using towards her tuition payments. Hailey's teacher Corrine Lechelt was awarded a $150 Amazon gift card to use towards art supplies for her classroom. Thank you to Corrine for encouraging many of her students to participate in this year's contest.
Second place and $500 went to Hienschi Nguyen of Sunnyside High School with her entry Simply Satisfying Apples.
Third place and $250 went to Eric Arroyo of Okanogan High School for his entry Picking Apples.
