2020 WAEF Scholarship Recipients Announced
Students learned of their awards this week in an improvised congratulations announcement. Industry members and supporters are providing over $1 million in scholarship aid to this group of dedicated and worthy young people.
This year’s scholarship recipients include 218 renewing students and 92 new scholarship recipients. 66 of our new students are current high school seniors.
Your scholarship support is changing lives and helping to achieve meaningful milestones for many families. 80% of our current scholarship recipients are first-generation college students.
New students are participating in virtual orientation sessions over the next week. During the orientations, students learn about what they can expect as a WAEF student, our expectations and requirements of them, and usage of the scholarship management software. When students applied to WAEF, most were seeking financial scholarship support to attend college. During the orientation, they learn their award means much more. They are now part of our WAEF community filled with donors and volunteers that are invested in their college and career success.
Notices have also been sent to high schools about the scholarships for their use in online recognition awards and graduation ceremonies.
In addition to the exciting news about 2020 scholarship announcements, we are also excited to share 73 of our current year scholarship recipients have graduated or will graduate from college this spring! 75% graduated in four or fewer years. 33 students have already found career jobs (a significant achievement, especially in the current employment environment!) and six have been accepted into graduate school.
We are proud of our impressive students and very appreciate of the opportunities created by WAEF donors!
