The Washington Apple Education Foundation is hiring a scholarship specialist to provide support to current scholarship recipients, promote scholarships in area high schools, and deliver information about scholarship opportunities to parents employed in the industry. Primary duties of this person will be scholarship promotion in high schools throughout central Washington, parent education & outreach about paying for college, support & encouragement of current scholarship recipients, and assistance with the scholarship selection process.
This is a training position designed as a first career job for a student directly out of college. It is intended that the person will serve in this role for up to 18 months, commencing in June and ending in December of the following year.
In addition to primary work roles, the scholarship specialist will be involved in ongoing professional development to hone office and communication skills. Ample opportunities will be provided to learn about careers within the tree fruit, non-profit and educational sectors.

Reports To: Executive Director
Classification: Non-Exempt, At-Will
Location: WAEF office in Wenatchee
Timeframe: up to 18 months
Basic Responsibilities: Coordinate and deliver scholarship training program, develop and administer student stewardship activities, organize scholarship application review process, promote scholarship understanding and availability, support activities related to the alumni association and membership, and assist with external communications
Update, coordinate and deliver scholarship training to high school students in WAEF service area.
Maintain student files keeping track of renewal needs and status of each WAEF student.
Initiate regular contact with high school counselors and others that assist students with college financing.
Assist with annual campaign materials to promote scholarship availability to potential applicants. Promotional activities occur in high schools, regional colleges, industry employers and with media contacts.
Promote understanding of scholarships and opportunities through WAEF amongst labor employees of the tree fruit industry.
Coordinate and implement activities year-round that support scholarship recipient success including summer workshops, regional dinners, holiday events, career tours and others.
Actively engage with scholarship application software to ensure effective understanding and use by applicants.
Maintain communications with all WAEF alumni including physical and electronic files.
Support outreach activities to alumni association members including annual renewal appeal.
Carefully arrange scholarship applications for committee review.
Organize scholarship announcements including opportunities to promote the WAEF program and its impact.
Provide support for fundraising, administrative and other office needs, as requested
English & Spanish Bilingual
Proficient in MS Office suite of products
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Desire to be part of a team environment
BA or BS degree, field of study may vary
Regular travel in central Washington will occur, sometimes including overnight stays. Employees must have a valid driver’s license, appropriate transportation and personal automobile insurance.
Must be highly organized and motivated to perform duties precisely.
Friendly demeanor and ability to work well with others.
Use of sound judgment.

Ability to work in a small work environment requiring regular communication and teamwork.
