The Pesticide Management Division protects the public interest, health and welfare of the people of the state of Washington by providing cost efficient and effective services for the regulation of pesticides, dairy nutrient management and fertilizers. The Division encompasses four programs: Pesticide Compliance, Dairy Nutrient Management, Registration & Licensing Services, and Technical Services and Education.

The Ideal Candidate:As a Program Specialist 3 you assist agricultural operations, small businesses, public entities and individuals with disposal of unusable agricultural and commercial grade pesticides. In addition, this position works together with other Farm worker Education Specialists, including a supervisor, to conduct mostly Spanish language training courses to agricultural employees.

This consists of a variety of content relevant pesticide safety training taught to individuals at all levels of agricultural operations. The team partners with the agricultural industry to deliver training in order to maximize program resources and reach as many individuals in need of training as possible. The actions of this position directly impact the agency's mission of protecting people and the environment and ensuring the economic vitality of the agricultural industry.


Who We're Looking for:

We are seeking a creative individual who shares a passion for helping people. This individual will work collaboratively with other staff to help people remove unwanted pesticide products from their property and will develop and conduct training that protects people and the environment from exposure to pesticides and their residues.

This individual must be fluent in both Spanish and English and possess the ability to read, write, speak, and understand the primary dialect used by people involved in the state's agricultural industry.

A Bachelor's degree, which includes at least 25 semester or 40 quarter hours in a natural or physical science.

OR a two (2)-year degree with extensive experience in the agricultural industry and/or education.

OR three (3) years of professional experience in a natural resource, environmental or health regulatory agency, or in the pest management field.


Must have a valid Washington State driver's license.

·         Experience handling and working with hazardous materials.

·         Experience in the areas of pesticide use and management and a working knowledge of state and federal hazardous waste regulations and hazardous material transportation requirements.

·         Practical experience working in the agricultural industry, particularly in tree fruits or viticulture, with first-hand knowledge of the Worker Protection Standard.

·         A working knowledge of Good Agricultural Practices and the requirements of third-party agricultural producer and food processor certification programs.
