The 24th Annual Washington Apple Education Foundation Year of the Apple Art Contest presented by Corteva Agriscience saw entries from 268 young artists. We were thrilled to award the grand prize to Stephanie Foley last week.
Stephanie is a junior at Ellensburg High School. After she recovered from the surprise announcement in her classroom, Stephanie shared that this is the first art contest she has ever entered. Her mom told us that Stephanie has cultivated her own talent and has yet to take her first art class though she believes that might change as Stephanie considers furthering her natural ability.
As the grand prize winner, Stephanie received a check for $1000 and the honor of getting to see her artwork on the 2020 Corteva Agriscience poster calendar.
Our second place winner this year is Elaina Parrish from Othello High School. Her entry is titled Fall in a Basket. And third place was won by Rocio Arias of A.C. Davis High School. His artwork is titled A Summer's Day.
Students in grades 9th-12th residing in the counties of Adams, Benton, Chelan, Douglas, Franklin, Grant, Kittitas, Okanogan, Yakima and Walla Walla are eligible to enter the contest. The 2020 contest opens at the start of the next school year. Entries must be submitted to WAEF by May 1st.
A special thank you to our judges for the difficult task of selecting from amongst many worthy entries, Kira Bennett, LaVerne Bergstrom and Geraldine Warner.
Thank you contest sponsor! This contest is made possible with the support of Corteva Agriscience!
