Students, parents, donors, volunteers and supporters attended the Washington Apple Education Foundation luncheons last month in Wenatchee and Yakima. On Monday, July 23rd, just over 400 guests gathered in Wenatchee. Earlier this week, about 560 people gathered in Yakima for the celebration on July 30th.
The scholarship celebration luncheons began in 2006. At that time, just one event was held and the function rotated between Wenatchee and Yakima. We were thrilled when attendance hit 200 guests and forced the expansion to two unique events annually.
The luncheons provide a venue to recognize current WAEF scholarship recipients, celebrate our current year college graduates and honor the spirit of philanthropy that thrives in the tree fruit industry.
In addition to recognizing each of the current year scholarship recipients, guests were treated to inspirational messages from current year graduates and keynote speakers.
Wenatchee speakers were 2018 WSU graduate Magdaleno de Jesus Rodriguez and Dr. Andre-Denis G. Wright, dean of the College of Agriculture, Human and Natural Resource Sciences at Washington State University.
