2019 Scholarship Season Begins!

School has started and so has WAEF scholarship promotion. Last month the 2019 scholarship applications became live at www.waef.org/scholarships. Students can apply for WAEF scholarship support through the Universal Application or the Vocational/Technical Application. Information to guide students on who should apply for each is posted on the site.

This time also provides an opportunity for us to connect with high school career and college guidance counselors and express appreciation for their ongoing efforts to help students succeed beyond high school. In mid-September, WAEF hosted a series of Scholarship Launch Luncheons in Wenatchee, Yakima and Pasco. All area high school counselors were invited to participate.

In addition to expressing appreciation, the gatherings provided an opportunity to preview the current application, discuss observations from the 2018 selection cycle, promote our scholarship training workshops and get feedback on ways we can support their internal efforts to help students begin and complete scholarship applications.

We were pleased to have representatives from these schools attend:

A.C. Davis High School

Brewster High School

Bridgeport High School

Cashmere High School

Eastmont High School

Eisenhower High School

Kamiakin High School

Kennewick High School

Kiona-Benton City High School

Supplies distributed at the event were later sent to schools unable to be present at the launch events.

Our thanks to our gracious host locations Moss Adams  in Yakima and Northwest Farm Credit Services in Pasco.

Some of the schools in our region conduct scholarship help nights and others are now considering this idea. One of their needs for these events is to have one-time volunteers assist students with scholarship applications. If you're interested in helping students in your local school in this way, please let the WAEF office know at waef@waef.org. We'll share your contact information with the school representative.

Next up on the promotional calendar is warehouse and industry employer promotion. Organizations with WAEF scholarships will be seeing materials arrive later this month and information about ways WAEF can assist in internal promotion.

Scholarship season is just beginning! If you're interested in being part of student success through scholarships we welcome you. Opportunities include providing a scholarship, volunteering for scholarship selections, assisting local schools, providing financial funding for existing college student support activities and more! Please reach out to Jennifer at (509) 663-7713 or jennifer.witherbee@waef.org if you would like to discuss.
