Just like that it is September and school has begun! We say "Goodbye!" to summer and "Hello!" to harvest season. There is no better time for artistic inspiration than now!
The Washington Apple Education Foundation has opened its annual high school art contest, "Year of the Apple". Sponsored by Dow AgroSciences, this contest greatly benefits high school students in the following counties: Adams, Benton, Chelan, Douglas, Franklin, Kittitas, Okanogan, Walla Walla and Yakima.
2017 grand prize winner Hailey Fisher's, "Gala"
The grand prize is $1,000 cash, and the artwork is printed on wall sized calendars that are distributed throughout apple industry offices in Washington! Second place receives $500 and third place, $250. (Each winner's art classroom receives gift cards for art supplies!)
There are only a few guidelines to follow: Artwork must depict real Washington apples! Original artwork only, sized no smaller than 8.5"x11" and no larger than 11"x17". Traditional media only, no photographs or digital images, wormy fruit is discouraged and entries should not contain advertising or slogans.
