WAEF Students Visit WA Fruit

Students from the Yakima area receiving Washington Fruit & Produce Company scholarships and scholarships in memory of Dorothy Plath and her father, A.C. Davis were invited to have lunch at the Washington Fruit & Produce Company headquarters by Rick & Lisa Plath.

This is an annual event for these scholarship recipients and an opportunity to connect with the contributors of their scholarship funds and learn more about the tree fruit business. For some of the students, this was the fourth year they have attended the summer luncheon.

Following lunch and round table sharing, students set out on tours of the administrative and sales offices and the company's newest apple packing line. In addition to the group led by Rick Plath, former and current scholarship recipients employed in sales and HR at Washington Fruit led small groups of students.

Students receiving these scholarships all have ties to Washington Fruit and the tree fruit industry but few have looked at the industry through the lense of a someday college graduate. Conversations about automation, robotics, computer science, sales, accounting and HR throughout the walking tour provided some new perspectives to the groups of students.

Throughout the year WAEF coordinates activities for scholarship recipients to learn more about careers in the industry and we support events led by our donors to connect with students. If you have an interest in hosting a gathering, we would like to help. Please contact us at (509) 663-7713 or jennifer.witherbee@waef.org
