2017 Scholarship Luncheons

The 12th Annual Washington Apple Education Foundation scholarship luncheons presented by Northwest Farm Credit Services showcase the work of the tree fruit industry's charity and the efforts of hundreds of donors and volunteers that make WAEF possible. Annually over 600 individuals donate to WAEF and nearly 200 individuals volunteer time and talent contributing to scholarship awards, student encouragement, career development support and so much more.

This year's luncheons presented the monumental effort of the tree fruit industry: it's history, innovations and combination of people who have contributed to its success. Nearly all the of 252 scholarships recipients were recognized and just under 850 guests attended between the two luncheons in Wenatchee and Yakima on July 24th and 31st.

Student speakers and WAEF graduates Erik Lemus and Maria Anaya shared about their college experiences and how WAEF scholarships contributed to their educational success.

Maria Anaya (Suarez)

WAEF Chairman James Foreman congratulated this year's 32 graduates and thanked all that contribute to the success of WAEF and the scholarship program.

Welcome Sauer presented the key note address titled "What These Hands Have Made".

"In scholarship applications we read

of cold mornings, hard working

parents, hopes and aspirations,

inspiring role models, and dreams

of education. In these stories we are reminded of

our own personal heritage.

Many of us share these same

experiences, and we cherish the

foundation on which we were built.

We recognize the work and sacrifice

of our parents' hands."

Students were awarded and honored in front of their scholarship donors, peers and family with their scholarship award certificates. Thank you to the donors and event sponsors that made this celebration possible.
