Meet WAEF Graduate Braden Mortensen

I am currently working at Two Mountain Winery in Zillah where I am the Assistant Winemaker.  Not only do I help in the winemaking process, but I also get the opportunity to help out in the vineyards, do lab analysis, and speak with customers in the tasting room.

My future goals for my career are to eventually open a winery of my own with plans to make fruit wines alongside traditional wine.  I want to be able to take advantage of what the state has to offer in terms of agriculture so I would like to incorporate things like apple, plum, peach wines, etc.

None of these plans would be possible however if not for the support from the Washington Apple Education Foundation.  The scholarships I have received from WAEF have made it possible for me to complete my education.  Without scholarships like these, I wouldn't have been able to afford to go to school without taking out massive loans.  As it stands, I will be graduating with only about $5,000 of student debt over 6 years of school.  This is an accomplishment I am proud of but one I couldn't have achieved without WAEF.

Thank you guys so much for everything!
