One of the most exciting times of year at the Washington Apple Education Foundation is scholarship season. Particularly the part where volunteers and staff travel to high schools throughout North Central Washington, surprise students and distribute scholarships! This year during scholarship announcement week, WAEF traveled over 1200 miles to visit 29 schools (high school and technical) and present awards and balloons to 76 amazing graduating seniors!
WAEF reaches out to high school counselors for permission to surprise students in their classrooms, or administration offices. WAEF staff or volunteers introduce themselves, present each student with their award letter and balloon, and ask students to write down what this award means to them or how they are feeling! We love to see and read the reactions as they range from shocked to excited to emotional: WAEF recipients always express their gratitude.
Students currently attending college who were selected for renewal of their scholarships receive letters with their exciting news.
In total, 229 students will share in the $1,063,800 awarded in scholarships by WAEF this year.
Thank you to all donors for making the educational dreams of these students come true! Thank you to our volunteers for your time and effort in scholarship selection and announcements!
