Tree Fruit Industry Golfers Joined Together Yesterday to Raise $75,000 for Charity
Wenatchee, WA… Washington Apple Education Foundation (WAEF) golfers supported the good works of the tree fruit industry’s charity yesterday in the first of two tournaments organized by WAEF annually. The WAEF tournament took place in East Wenatchee at the Wenatchee Golf & Country Club. The annual summer tournaments are presented by Wilbur Ellis Company and DuPont.
Six teams took the top honors in yesterday’s event. The Yakima Pomological Club team of Scott Jacky, Craig Shindler, Keith Veleska and Kailan Dunn achieved low net bragging rights. The Bank of the West team of David Millheisler, Mark Blakney, Eric Brown and Daryle Walter came in second place and the ProAg team of Mike Bourn, Coron Polley, Chad Smith and Mike Buckmiller came in third with their net scores. The Dow AgroSciences team Neil Johnson, Lee Gale, Greg McPherson and Aaron Gale was the lowest gross scoring team with second place gross earned by the Wilbur Ellis Company team represented by Tim Baity, Dave Lerma, Steve Rawley and Bryan Jones. Third place low gross team was the Wilbur Ellis Company sponsored team consisting of Dave Raby, Geoff Collins, Brad Hirai and Ron Johnson.
Course contests at the Wenatchee tournament were sponsored by Bayer CropScience. Winners included: Mike Poirier- Closest to the Pin; Joe Gamboni- Accurate Drive; Jaime Borton- Women’s Long Drive; Mike Parrish- Men’s Long Drive; and Jessica Woodward- Longest Putt. Tim Baity was this year’s grand raffle prize winner of a Taylor Made r14 Driver and Wedge sponsored by SmartFresh. The Putting Contest was presented by Keyes Fibre Corporation on the putting green prior to the tournament. Mark Burnett was the putting contest champion.

The second tournament will play on July 9th at the Apple Tree Golf Course in Yakima.
