WAEF scholarships are sponsored by tree fruit industry firms, families and in memory of industry and community leaders. In total, over 150 scholarships will be awarded next spring by the WAEF scholarship selection committee to college-bound and college-enrolled students raised in tree fruit districts of Washington. It is expected these awards will be valued at nearly $500,000. 173 students are attending college in the current 2012-13 school year with WAEF scholarships.
Once a student creates a profile at www.thewashboard.org, the WAEF scholarship application will surface if the software detects a match. thewashboard.org was launched in January 2010 by the Washington Scholarship Coalition, a public/private partnership that includes nonprofit organizations, private foundations and state agencies committed to increasing access to scholarships and financial aid for Washington students. Registration and use of thewashboard .org services are free to both scholarship seekers and providers. Data is secured through the Washington Student Achievement Council, formerly the Washington State Higher Education Coordinating Board, a state agency located in Olympia.
